Engineering provides services to telecommunications and other utility
companies. This includes mapping the locations of telephone lines,
terminals, manholes, and poles. Most telephone companies are converting
manually drawn maps to digital, created and stored on the computer.
This conversion, and accompanying software development, has created
steady growth for Byers. At the same time, deregulation and other
industry trends has made project management more demanding. Byers
wanted outside assistance in determining new processes,
organization structure, and training
requirements. |
Pro/Right
prepared interview questions following the topics in the Project Management
Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and then interviewed all the division managers,
and a random sampling of supervisors and employees. In addition, Pro/Right
contracted for a customized version of a PM Maturity Assessment. The
results of both the assessment and interviews provided significant
insight into how the organization was doing.
The final report documented 20 key
conclusions and a set of 32 recommendations with action items, prioritized
into three levels.
|
- Formal Maturity Assessment (over
50 items)
- 35 interviews with executives, managers,
supervisors, and operators
- Review of project software and existing
management guidelines.
