Fundamentals of Managing Projects

This course is designed to introduce the processes, knowledge areas, and tools you need to work successfully in a project. Fundamentals of Managing Projects steps you through the five Process Groups defined by the Project Management Institute and integrates the nine knowledge areas on the PMI Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Participants actively plan a project and mimic real life implementation decisions.

Fundamentals of Managing Projects has been the basis for development of other Project Management training, including a 10 day workshop and a 40-hour WEB-based course to qualify for full Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Key Objectives

Determine project objectives from the scope of work

Create a work breakdown structure (WBS)

Based on the WBS, create a network diagram and Gantt chart

Determine a Resource Assignment Matrix and cost estimates

Develop a risk matrix

Prepare communications and change control plans

Emulate tracking and reporting

Analyze project variance

Prepare lessons learned

      Project Management concepts are generic, but it is very useful to have examples, best
      practices, and guidelines from your company or industry. We will be happy to consult with
      you as appropriate.

Logistics

      We will work with you to find a room that allows for full class presentation and discussion,
      and space for small groups to work on project plans.
